1998 Renault Scenic Directional Control on heater not worki

The control knob does not change the direction of the aair around the car. The air just comes out of the back of the dash under the windscreen. No air comes out of the side vents. Could it be that the wiring behind the switch has fallen out as the directional knnow moves freely. Also, is this one I could fix myself?

either the door motor is faulty or the wiring is damaged .. this may require the entire dashboard to locate the fault ... best left to the tech's ..?
