1997 Renault Scenic can you tell me whats wrong ?

i have just bought a renault megane 1.6e scenic and and have heard a noise from under the car ...the man i bought it of reasured me that it was only a brackett that holds the exhaust on that needs tightened are replaced ..when he put a stick under the car where the rattle came from it stoped and was meachanily sound

could be the heat shield loose .. could be a bracket .. take the vehicle to an exhaust repair shop and have them inspect undernaeth .. they don't charge for looking ?
