1986 Other Renault Models Renault 19 steering problem

I live on a remote island where parts are hard to come by and can take months to arrive- so I am hoping for some DIY advice on this one! on the passenger side hydraulic ram? the rod is rattling inside the pipe. there is a plastic washer/bung which stops the rattle. i am having difficulty putting the plastic washer inside the pipe. when i move the steering wheel it goes at an angle. when ithe wheel is straight i have little access...any tips?

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated Try unbolting the rack from the chassis (with it still on vehicle) to give yourself more movement .. or remove the rack from the vehicle altogether !! hope this helps
