2004 Renault Megane rattle

could anyone tell me why my engine makes a clackeng noise when it is running. i think it might be the tappeds. what should my course of action be? it is a renault megane sport tourer 1.6 16v.

First check the engine oil level is correct and that the oil is clean ... replace as necassary .. when it is correct have a repair centre check the "tappets" .. they are hydraulic on this vehicle and no adjustment is possible .. only replacement !! hope this helps
