1998 Renault Megane warning light and cutting out

a warning light has appeared , its an orange box with a zigzag line running across it , the car drives fine but keeps cutting out at very low speeds and at a standstill and will not tick over , especially when the engine is cold , is this something i can do myself by getting a part from a scrap dealer

have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer to retrieve any fault codes stored on the cars computer .. repost with full codes for more assistance
