1997 Renault Megane

Hi, I changed my battery on 1997 renault megane but every time I connect the new battery the alarm goes off and I cant turn it off and the key plip is working ok but wont turn alarm off. I since discovered there's a little box under the hood, and a tiny little key to go with it. When changing the battery you turn the key in the box to deactivate the whole thing, and then when everything's sorted turn the key back again and it's all fine. I dont have this key so I went to the Renault garage to see if I could get a replacement but they told me its not something they can do that I need to go a car alarm compant ( they chare a fortune for call outs here in Dublin) Is there any way of me dissengaging this alarm without the key, I dont need the alarm so if I have to break it its no problem.
Thanks in advance. Mark

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated

Firstly the renault meagane has it's own (factory fit)built in immoboliser controlled by the key fob .. so does the vehicle still start while the alarm is going off ?? if so leave it to reset itself .. this may take a few mins and it's a pain but it should reset ? or is this alarm also killing engine function ?.. let me know

Hi Dave, I am able to start the car ok when the alarm is going off and the alarm is not killing the engine function. I had left it alarming and it stops after a minute or two and then starts again. I have only let it start again one time and then disconnected the battery.

OK ... the Vehicle has it's own immoboliser (factory fit)... do you have the original keyfob for door opening (renault fob).. or does the new alarm fob open the doors as well ?? .. The original renault keyfob controls door lock function and immoboliser ... can you see a wiring loom going into the alarm box .. where the little key hole is (behind it) let me know

The key I have controls door lock function and immoboliser. I can see a wiring loom coming out of the side of the alarm box where the key hole is.
If I cut this wiring will it kill the siren but also run the battery down then?

Hey Mark.

You now have 2 options ... trace the wires back to where they get there live/hot feed from ...the rest of the wires in the loom will go to earth/ground and door switches etc. to set off alarm by voltage drop when the door opens ... and disconnect each wire from it's feed point .. OR cut the loom ... it should not drain battery once this loom is cut .. make sure you use electrical tape to seal the end of each wire so they do not connect to each other or cause a short to anywhere .. once cut the beattery should be fine ..and the alarm will stop .. if for some strange reason your battery does drain ..(there is no reason it should, but i'm not on scene so to speak) you will have to trace the wires and disconnect the live/hot feed ... hope this help ... let me know ..
