Does the engine turn over by hand ? .. remove spark plugs and try turning engine over by hand using a spanner/wrench on the crankshaft nut !! was the replacement gearbox new or a used/reconditioned unit ??

let me know

Could you please explain the fault in more detail .. is the car just dead and the starter is not turning over the engine ?? but when you bump the car it dies straight away (does start, but dies) or it will not start at all ?? ...Check the immoboliser is turned OFF .. on some laguna models the Immo' disables starter motor function ... check the wiring to the starter is on correctly and clean off gunk/oil/rust etc. and check main fuse's

let me know, as much detail as possible !

There is definately an Immoboliser fitted to a 1999 renault laguna ..it is built into the PCM (cars computer) and is switched off with the keyfob remote for door locks or by turning the key in the lock ... on some models it cut's starter motor function and on some it cut's fuel injection .. you need to check if you are getting spark at plugs and fuel at plug's !!

Let me know
