2001 Renault Clio shuddering

Recently (in the past week or 2) when I start my car - no matter what time of day it frequently shudders as if to stall, the rev counter fluctuates then after about 15-20 secs it settles down to idle normally. It doesn't happen all the time but at least once a day.

have the vehicles computer read using a diagnostic scanner to locate the fault !!
