Hi sometimes when I set off in 1st gear my car which is a 1.2 8V alve engine is quite slow, I end up pressing accelerator a bit harder and it soon picks up speed and is fine. It only does this about 30-40% of time out of 100. But I feel abit weary now when driving it. I have recently had time belt replaced as when last fitted it was done wrong and caused all valves and head casket to be damaged. But this problem happened before I had repaire done.

Sounds like the clutch is slipping, increase of rpm but lacking the pick-up speed

Ahh ok someone else suggested that too. Would it not do that in every gear though or will this happen when it gets worse? Shall I have new clutch fitted now or can it just be adjusted? Thanx for your help

Try and get the free play and pedal height adjusted and see what happens from there-

Have the clutch replaced it will gradually get worse and occur in every gear .. it could just fail altogether at a moments notice .. so I would have repaired sooner rather than later ... There is no clutch adjustment possible on this vehicle
