I removed the drive shaft because of bad u-joints. The car still has front wheel drive and i am okay with that. The rear differential and drive axles are intact, however the differential is howling very loud. I changed oil twice in differential and did not help. Is it possible to remove the rear axles and or the differential and still be able to drive? It is a fifteen year old car and i don't mind that it is front wheel only!

Good morning,

No, that would be a bad idea due to all the components that would need to be replaced to return it to two wheel drive.

The differential noise is worn bearings. It would be easier to replace the unit with a used unit and return it to original condition. It would also be cheaper than trying to convert it.

Check the results for the differentials. It is on a site I used all the time. WWW.car-part.com.
