Removing passenger CV axle?

If the CV axle can be separated from the other shaft that goes into the transmission, are they held by anything like a snap ring? or can it just be pounded out? I see a snap ring on the inside part of the carrier bearing.

Nevermind, i got it out, removed the 2 bolts holding the bearing cap in the middle of the axle then pounded the back of it and it came out of the transmission easy.
