Remove driver seat for cusion repair

Does the battery need to be disconnected so seat airbags do not deploy when removing driver side seat?

Yes. When you work on any part of the supplemental restraint system you take every precaution to keep the system from detonating any of the bags or tensioner systems.
The start of that is to disconnect the battery.
