How to remove the serpentine pulley?

I can't find any information on a 2.0L engine for that model. However, if you are just replacing the pulley, more often than not I have seen that the pulley bolt is left hand threaded. This means that turning right will loosen the bolt and turning left will tighten it. In other configurations, the tensioner assembly would be held on with 10mm bolts around the case. If possible, send us a picture if you can get a good look at it.

The tensioner is held on with one bolt. If you look below, I attached the directions for replacing the tensioner.

When you do this, it may be easier if you remove the right front tire and inner fender to gain easier access to the part.

Thank you for the picture. If there is no bolt on either side of the case, then the entire cover there will need to be replaced as a unit.

Yes, I realize that but to remove does the motor have to come out as the lugs on the inside has insufficient room to move?

I just realized that if you are not in the US, a 2.2L and a 2.0L were optional (based on your location). Everything we have is for a 2.4L.

Is it possible for you to take a few pictures of the tensioner that needs to be replaced on the engine? Maybe we will be able to come up with a plan.

The bolts you can undo but not remove, but also those lugs on the inside of that casing , there's not enough clearance for it to be removed.

Not being there makes it difficult for me. I've never seen one with this engine. How much room do you need for clearance? Are you able to loosen a motor mount and get the space needed?

No room at all, limited room as it's only about 20-30mm to the sub frame. If it didn't have those lug sticking out, I might of.

This reminds me of typical Audi directions. Step 1, Remove engine. LOL If you could take a couple of pictures of the engine compartment, I may have an idea, but based on your description, it sounds like the engine needs to be lifted, which is crazy for a belt tensioner.

Yes, crazy alright. I'll send some pics tomorrow as I'm out at the moment.

Sounds like a plan. The last Audi I did required a 2-inch plastic water pipe to the engine oil cooler to be replaced. Step 1 indicated to remove the engine. Ugh! I'm too stubborn to do that, so I made it happen without removal. Hopefully, I can help you.

Wow! Wouldn't you like to know whose idea that was? It looks like it would be easier to lower the engine. If you disconnect the motor mounts and support the engine with a floor jack from underneath, are you able to pry it far enough to remove the bolts?
