I was in the process of replacing the water pump on my SUV and got to the point of removing the fan clutch when I realized that because the pulley on the water pump was broken off there was nothing to keep the fan from moving while trying to remove it. Any ideas on how to keep tension on the pump so I can pull the fan?

Good afternoon,

There is a tool that locks the pulley from turning. I listed the parts below.

It is a pain without this tool.

Thanks for the quick response! The pulley is actually separated so it’s just flopping around on the rod. We have tried to get vice grips on it but can’t get a good enough grip. Going to try pulling the pump and then attack the fan.
