Remote door key will not lock or unlock the doors

My brake light was off. It occurred I think while they were doing another repair. The garage claims it was a cut wire. When they repaired the wire I no longer could use my remote key. It was working when I brought in for the brake light which by the way stopped working about a week after the brake job was done.

Regardless, the remote key does not open and close the doors now. I tried various suggestions like putting the key in ignition and pressing lock/unlock and holding and variations of this none worked. However one can hear a clicking when doing this method.

I saw a YouTube video which showed unscrewing the key and lining the well for the locked and unlocked with aluminum foil.

Hey,

I would take it back to the garage that supposedly fixed the wire, it sounds like they messed something up.

Please let us know what you find so it will help others.

Best, Ken

Thanks for responding. It was my first thought that the garage did screw something up especially since the remote key was working before they repaired the brake light and even then I thought the explanation for the brake light repair was odd. The garage found a wire they said was corroded However, about 2 weeks before they had to repair the brakes. I mentioned this to them and they said they never touched the wires related to that issue. Ever. However you don't think it is the fact that the garage may have disconnected the battery which would have resulted in having to reset the security system. Which would have included the key. My first thought when they fixed the brake light was that they may have interchanged a wire. Also now the car alarm works. I have driven this car since 2000. This is the first time I ever heard the alarm. It now goes off when the door opens & I think the lock is in a certain position. Never happened before. Plus it took the garage about 8 hrs of trying to figure out what was wrong with the brake light and did not charge me. So I am suspicious. The key light turns on so the battery is ok and I an hear the lock make a noise when I engage the key. It just never locks or unlocks the door. So before I approach them again tell me now after this explanation what you think. I have gone to this garage for about 7 yrs. But I think they may not admit it bec. They don't know how to fix it or want to spend the time.

Thanks Gin

Hi Gin,

I would try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, Then reconnect it, this should reset the alarm system if that is the problem, if not the wiring will need to be checked, perhaps by a different garage.

Let me know what you find.
