Someone I know who used to be a mechanic said one of my lifters is going bad in my 1998 v6 base mustang. He said he would change it for me to avoid the high cost of taking it to a mechanic, but I'm not sure which lifters would fit my mustang, and since I know nothing about lifters or which ones I need for my particular model and I don't want to buy the wrong set of lifters. Where would-be the best place to get them online for under $200?

Hey Mustang1998!

I have found recently that amazon. Com has a really nice and accurate parts matching system. So you put your car down to the last detail in and the site will just tell you whether or not that part will fit your vehicle. Not to mention amazon is awesome with returns and support.

Is the engine in your car the stock engine?

I believe so, when the person sold it to me they didn't say anything about it another engine ever being put in. I went on Amazon earlier typed in 1998 ford mustang lifters and a bunch of results popped up so I enter the exact make/model and I found one that said this matches your vehicle. It said it was a hydraulic lifter I believe.

Most v6 engines in the ford are basic unless there has been work done to it. There are all kinds of lifters out there from the cheapest to roller lifters more expensive. Go online like to advance auto or napa look up the numbers, that way you can compair to someplace else like e-bay
