Wondering about the overall reliability of the SQ5?

I was looking at the 2018’s or knew where I believe they are coded as model B9s. I want to buy a used one, but have been nervous about reliability. I was wondering if it’s something I should even pursue their problems I need to look out for? Is there a mileage issue like a 70 K miles too much where i’ll have problems at 100,000? I understand it’s not a Toyota, but is it at least reasonable reliability given I do maintenance oil change etc. Or should I just save the trouble and just buy a brand new car like a CX-5 turbo brand new?

Christian, they are great vehicles. Well balanced in all ways. Here is the only concern I have, and the used vehicle cost would help me determine which way to go. The concern is longevity and repair costs.

I've owned and still have an Audi. It has been a very reliable vehicle and at 173K miles, it still drives like all German cars, solid. The concern is this. If there is a failure, mechanical or electrical, the repair bill is usually extreme. Also, not all shops will work on them. If I didn't work on my own vehicles, I wouldn't own one simply because I wouldn't be able to afford repairs. Fortunately for me, there have been a few problems, but the ones that did occur were nightmares to repair. LOL

I am familiar with the specific vehicle model you are looking at. They are excellent, but what I mentioned is the concern. The mileage isn't too much of a concern if it has been well-maintained. The engine has a timing chain and not a belt which means it doesn't need to be replaced at 100K miles. That is a big plus. The 3.0L V6 has been around for a long time, so no concerns, but anytime you put a turbo on an engine, it opens up other concerns.

So, I love vehicles, but if you are looking for longevity, a new CX5 may be a better choice. Keep in mind, at this time, new cars are hard to find and used ones are overpriced. Keep that in mind as well. Plus, the Audi will not have any warranty left.

I hope I didn't cause more confusion. Let me know if you have specific questions or if this helped.

Take care,

Joe
