I've taken my car to two different repair shops to diagnose and fix recurring P0440 emission error. The following parts were replaced without positive result, the P0440 persists.
1) New Gas Cap.
2) New Purge Valve.
3) New Charcoal Canister.
4) New Idle Control Valve (valve body was supposedly
cleaned).
5) New PCV.
6) New MAF.
7) New Gas neck filler tube.
It's really hard finding a competent shop much less one that cares to venture beyond simple OBD2 reading.
What else could be the problem with this issue? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Error Code P0440 means a leak in the EVAP system or that a vapor pressure sensor has malfunctioned. So, to fix this problem you need to go over the EVAP lines to make sure they are not leaking, if it comes back on with no leaks change out the EVAP pressure sensor which is by the fuel pump/fuel tank. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Ken, just so you know my latest update until resolution: For last resort, I've replaced my new generic gas cap, several days ago, with OEM Toyota part and cleared the light to see what happens. I don't think this will be the fix but wanted to eliminate this from the equation problem. So, I'll be driving around until the light kicks on again then make an appointment with local Asian specialist shop that has a smoke tester. After this, I will be promptly back here to update you. Best Regards.

Ken, quick update: As a retired, handicapped senior I don't get to drive much. But so far so good after OEM gas cap replacement. Will be back at the end of month for another quick update. Best Regards, Peter

Back for final time for this issue: OEM gas cap resolved it. However, I did have other emission related fixing because when I first purchased my used Toyota the gas station fuel pump would click off numerous times indicating blockage which was resolved with several previously replaced parts. Ironing out all these kinks was a bit convoluted but at least progress was finally made. Thanks again, got your forum book marked in case of other issues. :-) Best Regards, Peter
