Yes you could just unplug it, but that will set an error code in the system, it's not a big thing but it's there. Plus getting to it to unplug it is almost the entire process of replacing it. There are only 2 screws that hold it in and it's easier to unplug it with it loose anyway.
As for where it is, almost directly behind the left side of the glove box door. To get to it you empty the glove box. Now look at the box and you will see 2 tabs that keep it from falling down, press those in and the box will drop fully open. Look in and you will see the actuator on the left side above the blower motor and cabin air filter area. There are two screws that hold it in place. Remove them and pull the actuator out, now you can get to the tab to release the electrical connection. If you look through the holes in the HVAC box you can see the recirculation door in there. If you don't want to replace the actuator you can make sure the door is closed on the passenger intake side so you only pull in outside air. Or you can install a replacement actuator and restore full operation. To install the replacement you just plug it in with the key off, now put it on the door stem and position it so the screws can be reinstalled. Now turn on the key and verify it moves the door full open and full closed. If it does, flip the glove box back up and latch it, then put all the stuff back in, Well except for the 5 year old pack of gum and the damp salt packs from McDonalds. LOL
It's nice to have that working on a hot day as you can turn the A/C on to max and it pulls the air inside the car through the system to cool it faster. Same thing if you want to warm it faster in cold weather.
