Hi,

I have a 2010 Honda Odyssey EX, which a mechanic said was in very good condition, and I recently noticed that after every cold start, there is a squeaky noise. This squeaky noise isn't always there, only when I start the van after it hasn't been used for at least a few hours. It rained recently, and I also hit two very deep potholes. Could the problem be because a belt now needs adjustment?

Can you please tell me how much I should expect to pay in order for a shop to adjust the belt? Can you also tell me how much I should be expected to pay to replace a belt? Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I ended up going to the mechanic and after doing an inspection, he put some lubrication and told me I shouldn't worry and that it would clear up, and it has!

The mechanic said that the only thing that looked like a problem was some rust near the A/C clutch, and that he lubricated it. It made some noise the morning after, and I asked him about it again. He said it was humid and it would eventually clear up. I think the problem might've been that the van was driven only once a month from September to October. So rust might've built up.

Also pulley grooves get belt material etc in them and make noise.

Do shops remove belt material from the pulley grooves if it's there, or is the presence of material in pulley grooves a sign that the belt needs to be replaced?

Its just a little trick I have used for a lot of years with squeaky belts. You can call around and see works good.I replace belts when they start cracking.
