The hood blew off my 1981 VW pickup. Dealer doesn't stock hinges. Car is super rare in this country, unable to locate parts truck. Could a good machinist make new hinges from scratch, or is there another possibility? Is it possible the same hinge was used on other models? I'd appreciate any suggestions.
thanks,

Do you have the old hinges? Are they just mangled? If so, look for a community college with a Machine Tools program. They often require students to design and produce a product, and this might be a valid learning experience for them. They might also be able to repair a damaged hinge.

This is the Rabbit based truck correct? According to Hollander they used the same hinges as the Rabbit, Golf and Jetta.
