Rear wheel spins in drive or reverse when at an idle

Got stuck the other day and when I put my truck in drive, took my foot off the brake and without giving it any gas, one rear wheel started to spin. The idle doesn't sound fast or out of control so I just let it do it's thing while turning the wheel back and forth and it was spinning enough to actually work me out of the slush pile. Why does just one rear wheel spin when it's in drive and reverse and is this something else I need to add to my large list of repairs this vehicle needs.

AN UPGRADED VERSION OF A DIFFERENTIAL IS A "LIMITED SLIP"---BOTH WHEELS PULL IN THE SAME DIRECTION, BUT THE WAY IT WORKS STILL ALLOWS YOU TO MAKE LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS WITHOUT DRAGGING A WHEEL .........COST IS MORE, AND USUALLY REQUIRES A LITTLE MORE SPECIAL MAINTENANCE ATTENTION

Having one wheel spin is normal unless you have a positive traction rear end.
