Is it safe to drive with a broken rear spring without messing up stuff?

Not really as the spring can shift around or worse come free and do damage. I would also suggest that you replace both springs with new. Do you know how it broke? Rust or did it just snap.

Not the first one I have heard of. They are not that hard to replace but access to a lift makes it a lot faster and easier.
