I'm installing a new rear main oil seal on my WRX with a ej20g. The outer part of the seal is maybe 0.5mm above the engine block ledge. Is this fine or does it need to be completely flush?

Good morning,

The seal needs to be flush with the block when installed.

Coat outside surface of rear seal with engine oil, and seal lip with grease, then install oil seal using a suitable tool.
Install rear oil seal by using ST1 and ST2.
