Slips sometimes then clunks sometimes and hum, sounds like old school bus! Clunks when coming to complete stop also. Checked u-joint no play!

try twisting drive shaft back and forth it may be the gear set is worn out and you will have a lot of play or the shims behind spider gears are the same causing that. it may be low on fluid which you should check as well.
