Rear door will not close

Have used screwdriver and latch is in open position. Sprayed silicone on latch, but it still will not latch when door is closed. I can move latch into closed position manually but striker in jam will not cause it to move.

It sounds like the door latch is broken and needs to be replaced check out the diagrams below to show you how to change it out.

Also if the door is not aligning with the striker, then the door hinge bushings are worn out causing the door to sag.

If the door is aligning with the striker, then perhaps the striker needs to be adjusted, in or out or even up and down. But if down, most likely that is the result of what I said before and the door sagging because of worn hinge bushings.

The striker on the other hand may have a torx head and if it does, since they are usually very tight, I use the proper torx bit and an impact to loosen it up.

Then tighten by hand just enough that it will still move, but hard to move and close the door so it moves the striker to where it has to be, the slowly open the door, trying not to move the striker, then tighten the striker with the impact, and try it a few times to make sure it is okay.

The striker is a single “U” shaped piece and is firmly attached to jam. The door does not seem to be sagging and the striker appears level. My mechanic fixed it once in a matter of minutes by spraying the latch with a lubricant and voila! It worked. I have not had similar luck.

If you can open and close the latch like you were saying "I can move latch into closed position manually ", then the problem is not the latch, it must be the striker. Here is the adjustment procedure from the repair manual.

Below is a picture of the striker. It does not look like the picture you sent. Am I looking at the wrong thing?

Ah! I have learned something new. It is good that know the proper names instead of relying on whatchamcallit or gagiponus. Thank you.

You are welcome. They are not that tight, so you will not need an impact like I said previously, they are just 18 foot pounds (ft lbs).

Found a torx but it is too small. Obviously do not want to strip things. Will look for bigger one. Just in case it matters, while I can move the latch manually with a big screwdriver it does take quite a bit of effort.

At some point I am going to give up and take it to someone like you who knows what they are doing and has all the right tools at hand and have them fix it.

Is the door bouncing off the catch post? You might be able to flip the latch up to catch the post. I can't see much from here?
