rear differential information

i need help in finding out the the gear ratio of the rear differential. i have looked on the axle tube it was too rusted to see. is there any other way of finding out the information? i will be thankful your help.

The tag under one of the cover bolts is the best way, but there is also usually a sticker in the glove box on trucks that lists all the optional equipment. The dealer may be able to help with the vehicle ID number. As a last resort you can remove the rear cover, then the ratio will be stamped on the outer edge of the ring gear.
