rattling noise when my engine is running?

What do you mean by "it takes a minute to start"? Are you cranking the engine that long before it starts to run? Do you have to wait for a minute for the dash lights and other power to turn on?

When I crank it, the engine won't start for about 20 seconds. I can hear it trying to rev, but it doesn't. The lights and radio all work fine and start when I turn the key, but it's just the engine. I just replaced my battery a few months ago and I don't believe it is an issue with that. Once it is running, it seems to work fine. There is just that rattling noise.

You're listing two different symptoms that do not appear to be related, at least at this time. For the long crank time, a real good suspect is fuel pressure is bleeding off when the engine is off. That pressure should hold for days or weeks. You may be able to get a clue if you turn the ignition switch to "run", wait a couple of seconds, turn it off, then turn it to "crank". Each time you turn the switch on, the fuel pump will run for about one second. It won't continue running until you start cranking the engine, and then, since the battery's voltage is drawn down by the starter, the fuel pump can run too slowly to build the fuel pressure needed for the engine to run.

My car recently developed a loud gravelly sound. It is continuous and doesn't appear to change with acceleration. It doesn't appear to affect performance in any way. Any suggestions?

Could be an exhaust gasket somewhere or the brakes.

Or a wheel bearing.

Does it happen all the time, or just when driving?

All the time...while idling and while driving. Seems to be coming out of the engine.

It sounds like a bearing noise, but it should increase with engine speed, remove drive belts and run engine to see if the noise is gone, start here.

My girlfriends 04 camry started making a rattling noise the other. I took a look under the hood and notice it was making noise near the alternaor. So I took the serpentine belt off spun all the pulleys and all were free no seizing except the alternator. It was sticking alittle so I replaced it plus it was squealing a bit. So I put it back together and the rattling continues. The power steering and ac seem to be fined. Not sure where the noise is coming from anymore or a solution. maybe the belt how old over30K needs replaced plys break in belt will cause ratling noise much like a bearing

I got a good look at it when I was checking the pulleys. I took it all the way off and inspected it and it looked pretty good. I know its got at least 30k on the belt. Does it still need to be replaced routinely if its not cracked and the grooves look good. Thanks for the response too.

Noises problem
2003 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Automatic 25000 miles

The weather is cloudy. After engine wash engine sound increased. Specially at starting it is too much. can it be silencer issue. May be hen car was lifted , they damaged the silencer. Before the car was sound less almost.Now much noise coming inside while driving. I feel very upset. Two days passed since wash. 40 miles driven after wash.

What kind of noise is it making? Ticking, squeling, grinding? This information is vital for us to better assist you with the situation. Thanks.

My engine makes a consistent "clugging" noise while it is running. Do you know what the problem could be?

Clugging? check all fluids, belts to be sure they are aligned properly. does this clugging change with engine speed?

Clugging is what it seems to sound like (clug, clug, clug, etc) and you only really notice it when you are outside the car. It seems like it is coming directly from the engine block and the noise is different than the normal smooth engine sound. The fluids and belts look good and it appears the noise remains constant as engine speed changes. Any other ideas?

has any work been done on the timing belt/water pump? see if the noise is possibly coming from the front of the engine and transmitting through the block

Is 2000 Toyota Camry worth repairing? Leaking oil bad, cut it off as soon as it made a noise...seal broke.?
This car has 200,000 miles...ran great and was very dependable prior to this...is it worth fixing? Is it worth fixing or should I try to sell it for parts (there are tons of these cars on the road)? The a/c, cd/tape/radio, power windows and doorlocks, power seat, entry fobs, etc. work perfectly. What course of action should I take to make a dtermination on what to do with this car? ...it is too good to just junk!

What kind of noise and what seal is broken are you gonna do the job?

This first happened when i stayed overnight in a motel and the temps got cold, in the teens. The next few winters it only happened in the morning after a cold night, garaged. It gradually got worse and now is loud on start-up, all the time. It is almost like a growl and/or rattle. And it almost sounds like something is loose. Within a minute or so, the loud noise is gone. I've been told to not worry about it, but it sounds like I'm driving a junker. Plus, I'd like to get to the bottom of it & get it fixed.

Obviously something is wearing out that relies on oil pressure and it shouldn't be ignored. It could be something in the timing belt or even something more serious internally.
