Check belt and tensioner you may have broken it both should be replaced at same time. Then check your battery for condition including load test most places do for free

Have you tried disconnecting belt to see if noise stops? If it does then it's accessorie drive problem like pump/ power steering/a/c or alternator. If it's a/c pump then you'll have to reroute belt to drive and that is hunt at auto parts to make a new belt fit.

The temp gauge moving really wouldn't mean a lot right now unless it's very hot when you shut it off. Most gauges move when you start then go back to wherever the temp is in your case.

Well this guy came out to look at it, says he thinks it's the timing chain. How do we know for sure.

Timing chains make a bunch of noise especially if the tensioner has broken or the chain wore out. Unfortunately it has to be disassembled to see if it's in time or not. If the check engine light is on sometimes if a scanner is hooked up it will show a code like a P0341 and the car will run like crap.

This is best checked locally, but around 6 hours labor what ever hourly rate is plus parts which may be around $100 or so I'd say around $500-600
