Ratcheting spindle nuts, manual hubs, Dana 44 ttb

I recently replaced the front inner and outer wheel bearings on both sides. I tightened them up all the way and then backed them off 1/4 of a turn. I didn’t feel any looseness until the next day. Jacked it back up and there was a wobble on both wheels. I retightened the spindle nuts and again, no wobble until yesterday. I believe someone has worked on the front end before I bought the truck. So, I’m not sure if I’m missing anything or not.

Hi,

When you adjust the spindle nut, do you have the caliper already mounted? If you do, remove the caliper and then adjust the nut. The caliper can be holding the rotor at an angle and when you drive, it moves, and then there is play in the bearings. It's a theory at this point, but I've seen it happen before. There really isn't much more that could be causing it unless you aren't reinstalling the cotter pin to prevent the nut from turning.

I attached the directions for replacing the disc rotor. Take a look through them and let me know if it appears you are missing anything. Also, let me know if you are hearing any sounds when this happens.

The diagram you posted is for a 2-wheel drive. Here is an exploded diagram of the axle that’s under it.

OMG. I'm so sorry. When I wrote that, I was wondering why you mentioned hubs for a 2wd.
