The radio does not work on any mode?

But the power still goes to the radio. When the aux is selected you can hear the speakers making a kind of knocking sound. I replaced the fuse that didn't appear blown and no luck. I honestly don't even know where to start with this one, rather than just trying to replace the radio itself.

Good call, it sounds like the internal amplifier has gone out which is common. I would install a rebuilt or aftermarket unit. Here is a video of the job being done on a similar car, but the procedure is the same. I have included instructions for your car in the images below.
