A bad battery or voltage spike can cause the audio system to lock up, but we need to determine whether the radio itself is operating.
Does the radio display turn on and respond normally? Also, do you have sound from any source—CD, AUX, Bluetooth, navigation prompts, or warning chimes?
Start by performing a reset:
Turn the ignition off and remove the key.
Disconnect both battery cables, negative first.
Hold the disconnected cable ends together for about 30 seconds—away from the battery.
Reconnect positive first, then negative, and test the radio.
If it still does not work, inspect the audio-related fuses in both fuse panels using a test light or meter; visual inspection alone can miss a blown fuse. Depending on the equipment, look for fuses labeled AUDIO, AMP, MULTIMEDIA, AVN, or MEMORY. Most of the time if the fuses are good the radio itself is bad.
