The vehicle is displaying check pre-collision system. I scanned the vehicle and cleared the codes, but a particular code was present as current and history codes. The code is "Front Radial sensor incorrect axial gap". What could be the problem?

Hello,

Did you have fault code C1A11 set?
If yes, then the description is incorrect and should read "Front Radar sensor incorrect axial gap"

A good link:
https://www.autocodes.com/c1a11_toyota.html

Possible that the front radar requires realigning, this can only be done by a specialist shop with calibration equipment

Code C1A11 Toyota Description
For vehicles with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control System: The Driving Support ECU Assembly uses the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly to detect objects in front of the vehicle. When it is determined that the vehicle is being driven in a straight line or on a gradual curve based on signals from the yaw rate and acceleration sensor, the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly performs self-diagnosis to check if the sensor beam axis has deviated. When the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly beam axis is misaligned, the Driving Support ECU Assembly stores Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1A11. After installing a new Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly, if sensor beam axis adjustment is not performed, DTC C1A14 is stored.

For vehicles with Forward Recognition Camera System: The Forward Recognition Camera uses the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly to detect obstacles in front of the vehicle. When the vehicle is determined to be driving in a straight line or on a gradual curve based on signals from the yaw rate sensor etc., the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly performs self-diagnosis to check if the sensor beam axis has deviated from the vehicle movement direction. When the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly beam axis has deviated, the Forward Recognition Camera detects this, and stores DTC C1A11. After installing a new Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly, if sensor beam axis adjustment is not performed, DTC C1A14 is stored.

For vehicles with Lane Departure Alert System (W/ Steering Control): The Forward Recognition Camera uses the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly to detect obstacles in front of the vehicle.

For vehicles with Pre-collision System: The Driving Support ECU Assembly uses the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly to detect obstacles in front of the vehicle. Based on this information, the Driving Support ECU Assembly sends pre-collision control operation signals. When the vehicle is determined to be driving in a straight line or on a gradual curve based on signals from the airbag sensor assembly etc., the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly performs self-diagnosis to check if the sensor beam axis has deviated from the vehicle movement direction. When the Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly beam axis has deviated, the Driving Support ECU Assembly detects this, and stores DTC C1A11. After installing a new Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly, if sensor beam axis adjustment is not performed, DTC C1A14 is stored.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Boris

Hello,

As previously advised if C1A11 is stored the front radar needs to be realigned using specialist equipment. Suggest looking for the closest workshop which specializes in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) calibration and let them carry out the procedure

There is nothing you could successfully carry out on your own unless you have the diagnostic tool and target boards available and knowledge on how to set up the tools.

A good video, this one on a 2017 Toyota RAV 4:

Hope this helps.
