I'm not sure what you mean by a performance rack and pinion. If it is designed for your vehicle, yes, it should work. Let me know the details.
As far as installing it, I attached the directions below. It is an involved process, but if you take your time, you should be fine. You will need to lift the front of the vehicle, disconnect the transmission mounts, and lower the subframe to access the part. So, make sure you have the needed tools before you start.
I do recommend having the vehicle aligned after installation to make sure the tow in/out is properly set. Otherwise, you will end up taking the inside or outside edges off the tires.
