Hi! I am watching your Big Block series, thanks for that! I am in the process of rebuilding my 1973 Corvette 454 Big Block. I want it to stay stock but have it checked in a machine shop, just like you did.
My question is, what do I ask the machine shop to do? An engine overhaul? Engine calibration? Or do I have to ask for single tasks such as honing? Thanks for any tips!

Good morning,
When you send the block, send the crank, rods and pistons with it. Then let him do his job. He will check the block for taper and out of round and he will let you know if any work is required. No need to tell him anything but check it for what it needs.
It may need nothing but honing the walls and new rings and bearings. That is a call the machine makes when he checks it.

Hello!
I'm Ryan from the YouTube video. Our expert is spot on I just wanted to add a phrase I like to use which is "What is this block going to clean up at?" So then the machinist can tell you what bore and what pistons and rings to get. At the end of our latest 5.3L engine build I go over it. Check it out when you get a chance and thank you so much for watching!
