I have the car listed above that’s been sitting for about 4 months. It hasn’t been driven. Before it sat, I drove it daily and had no problems. The car had been maintenance and taken care of. I was told last year it would need spark plugs eventually but not urgent. I got a new car and let the Honda sit through winter. I recently cleaned it out and was getting ready to sell it. The battery was shot so we replaced the battery. After replacing the battery, the car started fine, but the idle is jumpy while in park. Sometimes it idles up and down, sometimes it sits between 2 and 3 or 1 and 2 RPMs. When I put it in reverse or drive the RPMs drop to normal. Check engine light is on, and the code reader is giving one code which is “P0507”. No other codes on code reader come up. I’ve read that the throttle body may need to be replaced or cleaned. Or other components under the hood may need replaced or clean. Could this problem be a result of sitting too long in the cold? Is there a chance this may correct itself after driving it around a bit?

Hi,

This could be the result of a few things, but not because it sat in the cold. First, if you haven't, drive the vehicle for a day or two. Often when the battery is changed or sits uncharged, the powertrain control module may lose memory and require a few miles to be driven to reset.

Next, if the vehicle sat outside, there is a chance mice may have chewed on wiring or a vacuum hose. The code could be related to an engine vacuum leak. So, we need to check to make sure that isn't the case.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

As far as the throttle body or idle air control valve, sitting shouldn't have hurt them.

Try the things I mentioned above and let me know the results. If needed, we will continue trouble shooting.

Take care,

Joe
