I am hearing a squeaking sound and when I looked the belt wasn't all the way on the harmonic balancer. When I push or pull on the HB it is very loose. Is there a way I could tighten it or do I need a new one?

Good afternoon,

The balancer has to be replaced. There is a rubber bushing internal that has failed and this is the result. It may also make a knocking noise cranking or running.

Roy

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
5. Remove the right engine splash shield retainers and the engine splash shield.
6. Remove the torque converter cover.
7. Install the J 37096 to hold the flywheel.

8. Remove the crankshaft balancer retaining bolt.

Important: Do not separate the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft balancer. Service the crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft balancer as an assembly.

9. Install the J 38197-A.
10. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
11. Remove the J 38197-A.
