Problem with heat

Good morning.

From your description, it sounds like either the heater core is still blocked or the engine temperature is not high enough.

Did you change the thermostat?

Did you use a garden hose to flush the core and do it both ways until you get a good even flow from both ways of flushing?

Yes I did it both ways. I used some stop leak back during the summer because my water jug would he a little lower than usual when I checked it but it ran hot on me one night during the summer on a trip out of town. I found out the radiator had cracked around the housing at the top where the hose goes on so I replaced it. The heater worked great last winter and I replaced the AC compressor this past summer. I have not changed the thermostat since any of this work has been done.

You said the issue. stop leak is junk and never works. It solidifies in the heater core and the radiator and causes a blockage.

You need a heater core replacement. This is a full dash removal and then the heater case has to be removed as well.

Are you going to do this yourself? If so, I can provide instruction for this huge job.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

NOTE: If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be leak tested before it is removed from the vehicle.

1. Remove the plenum chamber.

2. Remove the screws and the heater core cover.

3. Carefully cut the seal above the heater core inlet and outlet tubes and remove the heater core.

4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Is there two blend doors on this vehicle? So stop leak for the radiator will mess up the heater core? Could the thermostat be stopped up from the stop leak? Also, you said the heater case has to be removed, what is that? I have never tackled a job like this before.

No, there is only one blend door for the heat.

Yes, but the gauge would read cold all the time. If it does, change that first.

That is what contains the heater core and the evaporator core for the AC. That is removed after the dashboard is removed.

It pays around nine hours in a shop plus charging the AC system, I would allow at least eighteen hours or more if you have never done the job before.

Roy, it was not the heater core. The heater doors was not opening up and the water control valve had gone bad.
