Problem with gears

While driving my car, all of a sudden i am unable to change gear, there was no signs of a problems just wont let me change gear. I am able to move gears when engine is of and can put the car in gear then turn car on and car will drive, but i cannot change gear when engine is on, any help would be appreaciated.

its a 5 speed manual gear box

Proberbly a clutch problem, is it hydraulic?if so check system for leaks first, let me know what you find.
