I drive very little, just short trips to stores, doctors., etc. My question concerns whether I should get a new battery and change coolant. Both are 4 years old. I don't want a big "surprise" in the middle of winter. Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

With only 7,000 miles there are not too many maintenances you will have to do.
The battery might be a good idea to change since it is 4 years old. Then again if the battery tested good and holding charge, might not be necessary. If the vehicle sits for extended period of time, it might be a good idea to keep a trickle charger at battery maintenance mode, this way you don't get any surprises on a cold morning.

Unless you have sludge buildup in the coolant, I don't see why you will need to change the coolant at this mileage.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
