Have to change the power steering pump. Will be doing this on the ground.
I will be buying the pump with the pulley attached.
I am mechanically inclined but have never done this before.
Is it possible to get some detailed instructions and information on how to refill the system properly?
Please and thank you in advance.

Hi,

I attached the steps from my manual below. The first six pictures are replacement procedures. Starting with pic seven are the bleeding procedures.

Also, here is a link that explains the procedure in general. I feel you may find it helpful.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks for the reply. I don’t have a bleeder tool, but plan on filling it up to the level, turning the wheel a few times (stop to stop) and letting it sit overnight as the generic instructions say.
I assume that is okay to do, correct?

Also, can the pump be removed with the pulley attached? The new pump has the pulley on it already.

Thank you

One more question.
I’m also replacing the high-pressure power steering line. Cannot get the line off the pump, (tried 18mm stubby wrench and crow foot, to no avail)
Actually, this is the reason I’m replacing the pump.
Is there any way to get that line off, without removing my existing pulley?
If I were to cut the line at the pump, would a socket fit on it that close to the pulley?
Thank you

Hi,

I don't think there is enough room with removing the pulley. I attached the directions for removing it below. You need a special puller/installer to do it. Most parts stores will lend one to you.

As far as the bleed, before starting the engine, turn the wheel fully in both directions several times (front off the ground). Check the fluid level and top of as needed. Then do the same thing again until the level remains consistent. Also, check to see if there is evidence of air in the fluid.

Let me know if this helps.

Joe
