Hi,
If you try prying it off, chances are it will break that really doesn't matter if you are replacing it. However, you need the pulley tool to reinstall the new one.
Most parts stores will lend this tool to you at no charge. Watch this video. It explains the procedure.

I wish I had a better answer, but the tool is needed to both remove and reinstall the new one.
