(VVTi engine) It had an overheat that resulted in the stripping of the block threads of the head bolts. I reconstructed the engine using a Timesert kit to reinstate the integrity of the block threads after having the head refurbished. The car ran great for two weeks and then an intermittent power curve issue occurred. It starts and idols well but will not accelerate adequately for safe travel. It seems to hesitate in acceleration between twenty and forty mph. This anomaly can be averted after a restart of the engine after it has reached operation temperature. After the restart it will run fine until the next extended shutdown. PO328 code (knock sensor), but why the correction at restart?

Check the wire harness and connector at the knock sensor. If okay then replace the sensor. If the knock sensor is giving a faulty signal, it will over correct the timing. That is why when you restart the engine, it starts off fine until the knock sensor acts up.
