on vacation- check engine light just came on --not blinking--no other symptoms observed.
how long do you think I can safely drive car without damaging anything? (till light starts blinking?) already read manual and checked fuel cap tightness.

HI there,

The ECU has logged a fault code, now in most cases this is just an indication that something is out of parameter, if there is a serious problem the car will go into limp mode, this will allow you to drive the care to get it tested & repaired, of in a worst case the engine management system will shut down as there is not enough input to run the engine. If it is driving ok, i would not be over worried at this stage, but if you do get the chance get a scan done so at least you know what your are up against.

Hi there,

If the car goes into limp mode, it will still drive but with marked performance loss, your owners manual should have information on this.
