Popping sound coming from front driver side. Car is a RWD car so it has no CV axle in the front wondering what could be making that noise. I was driving in Hwy and car almost lost control and then the popping sound became worse.

Hi,

There are several different things that can cause a popping noise. Problems with the front suspension components, such as worn-out bushings, ball joints, or control arm bushings, can result in popping sounds when driving over bumps or when the vehicle's weight shifts.

When you almost lost control of the vehicle, describe what happened. Is there anything that you can do that causes the noise or changes how it sounds? For example, do you hear it over bumps only or at a specific speed?

Let me know as much as you can. Also, take a look at this link, you may find it helpful:

Additionally, I attached an exploded view of the front suspension. Safely lift one front wheel off the ground and inspect the parts I highlighted for damage, excessive play, or something broken. Also, if there is a problem with one of the ball joints (excessive play pics 2 and 3), stop driving the vehicle until a repair can be made. All other components are less likely to cause total failure, but all can.

Let me know what you find or if you have questions.

Take care,

joe

See pics below. Note: Pic 2 is the upper control arm and pic 3 is the lower control arm.
