Hi,

Is the check engine light on when the engine is running? If it is, let's start by having the computer scanned.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

I realize most people don't have a scan tool, but often times a parts store will do it free of charge. So, if the light is on, have it done and let me know what codes are stored.

Now, the idea that you are getting a backfire, usually it is the result of an incorrect fuel mixture. In other words, the engine is getting too much or too little fuel. This can be caused by a few things such as an engine vacuum leak, a fuel pressure-related issue, and a few other things. Because there are several possibilities, that is why I'm suggesting having the computer scanned. Otherwise, it becomes a guessing game.

Take a look at this link. It explains how to fix a backfiring issue. Let me know if you are comfortable performing the tests.

Let me know.

Take care,

joe
