Front pop/clunk coming from passenger side/front right wheel area. Had mechanic check the front suspension over the weekend (I assumed it was sway bar links or bushings, etc.).

Mechanic did not find any problems and refilled the sway bar link grease. Soon as I left the mechanic the popping has now been more noticeable/prevalent.

Went and bought some jack stands today to see if there was any play left to right or top to bottom on the wheel and I couldn't notice anything substantial.

Made sure lug nuts were tight.

This sound happens when going over bumps, does not happen when turning. Sound becomes unnoticeable on the highway. Tried bouncing the front end to replicate the sound, but I could not hear anything.

Front lower ball joints were replaced six months ago.

Video of sound here:

popping may be a wheel bearing or axle loose also when hitting a bump is normally ball joints so check to make sure they are tight and greased.

I checked under the car with the wheel still on and was able to move the outer CV axle and it seemed to replicate the noise. There was not a ton of play. I am wondering now if it is just a loose axle? I would imagine if the bearing was bad I would be hearing other sounds?

you could if boot is torn on CV then replace the axle it may be the joint you hear or the upper bearing that the strut rides on.

Thanks HMAC300 -- ended up taking it to the mechanic for this and other issues. Will update when solved.

Hello,

Nice work on getting the video to us, it really helps, I have heard this noise before and it ended up being the strut itself that was bad.

Please let us know what happens, we are interested to see what it is.

Cheers, Ken

Sway bar links seem to have fixed the problem. Have found a new mechanic that I'm using from now on.
