2005 Pontiac Vibe Brake Pads

I just had my car inspected and they said it wouldn't pass because it needed front brake pads. There is no squealing, grinding or other noise coming from the front brakes. The car stops great. How do I know if I REALLY need new brake pads?

If brake material is less than3/32in. thick
