1992 transport 3800 will shift when cold but when worm no gears at all, when cold it sounds like a ford power steering pump, the codes from OBD I & II are 31,36,39. 168,000 miles has been working fine

All of which are transmission codes.
31- Park neautral switch circuit
36- Shift control problem
39-TCC circuit (torque converter clutch)
Electrical testing now needs to be done to see if any of the above codes are creating each other.The 31 could cause issues if the trans doesnt know what gear it is in, but the heat thing concerns me. Might want to try a trans shop for a diagnosis
