fuel gauge

1997 Pontiac Transport automatic, 6cyl
Fuel gauge jumps to full when gets to less than 1/4.
I've heard it's probably sending unit. If that is so, how can I access it and replace?
Presently using trip meter as guide.

Sending unit is insde of gas tank, drop tank.. replace.
